Kakinada: Illegal soil mining mafia attacked two youth who tried to prevent them from picking up soil last night at Sathennagudem village in Dwaraka Tirumala mandal of Eluru district.
Expressing anger over the attack, villagers blocked the road and started agitating. Police reached the spot and tried to convince them to give up their agitation.
According to the agitators, the youth Kishore and Ramesh had been going to their house when they found some outsiders mining soil from the village pond.
They identified them as followers of Dwaraka Tirumala Sri Venkateswara Swamy Devasthanam Trust Board member Manukonda Subba Rao.
However, when the illegal miners attacked the youth on spotting them. Kishore, who suffered severe injuries, has been admitted to the government hospital in Eluru.
Agitating villagers have demanded that Dwaraka Tirumala police arrest members of the soil mafia. Police said they have applied to the magistrate for registering a case against the accused.
