Visakhapatnam: Thousands of kilos of waste was collected and disposed of as defence, public sector, government and private organisations launched massive cleanliness programmes in Visakhapatnam on Sunday morning.
Union minister of state for Railways Darshana Jardosh participated in the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ programme, organised by Waltair Division (ECR) at Visakhapatnam Railway Station.
Talking to the media, she said the Railways was observing the ‘swachhata’ campaign from September 15 and it will go on till October 2. This initiative aims to raise awareness through community participation, she said.
Indian Coast Guard, Visakhapatnam, conducted its cleanliness campaign called ‘Ek Tareekh Ek Ghanta Ek Saath’ at Sagar Nagar Beach.
This mega drive is also part of the ‘Swachhata Pakhwada - Swachhata Hi Seva 2023’, which is being observed across the country from September 15 to October 2.
About 200 personnel from the Indian Coast Guard and 350 participants from various organisations and school children took part in the drive.
Around 2,500 kg of garbage was collected and handed over to the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation for disposal.
NTPC-Simhadri organised a sweeping drive at Tikkavanipalem Beach. The event saw participation from NTPC employees, their families, welfare bodies, CISF personnel, the sarpanch of Tikkavanipalem, locals, and students.
The event aimed to highlight the importance of cleanliness in ecologically sensitive areas.
Visakhapatnam Port Authority organised the drive in its premise - dock area, R and D yards, signal station, dry dock and at Golden Jubilee Hospital.
Visakhapatnam mayor G. Hari Venkata Kumari, Visakhapatnam district collector Dr A. Mallikarjuna organised another cleanliness event at RK Beach with the participation of ruling party corporators, local political leaders and students.
