Hindupur town put under security blanket amid bandh called by Reddy Ikya Sangham

Anantapur: Hindupur town was put under security blanket on Monday with deployment of additional forces to thwart a bandh called by the Reddy Ikya Sangham.

The Sangham is demanding action against those who conspired in the murder of former YSRC convener Chowluru Ramakrishna Reddy.

Police imposed curbs and rejected permission for the bandh or any other form of protest in the town.

Cops detained Sangam leader Venkateswar Reddy and others. Private schools remained closed while the government schools and offices functioned and RTC buses plied as usual.

Tense was evident at a temple where the police detained BJP leader Ramesh Reddy who was part of the Reddy Ikya Sangham. He had an argument with the police and said he was making the preparations for the MLC polls and attending a voter enrolment programme but the police forcibly detained him.

The Reddy Ikya Sangham alleged that the investigations into the murder were not moving forward and there were attempts at protecting the main conspirators. It accused YSRC incharge and MLC Md Iqbal of involvement in the crime, as his PA was the prime suspect and has been arrested.

The Sangham called on the people of Hindupur not to allow the MLC to enter Hindupur.

However, Iqbal released a video message asking the activists to submit evidence, if they have, against him. "I have no differences with party cadres but only political differences with one leader in the party because he had a nexus with another party," he said.
