Viral infections and dengue cases on the rise in the city

Hyderabad: In an alarming development, it is believed that almost every family in the city has had cases of dengue or other viral infections over the past few weeks.

Physicians are expressing concern as many patients have been admitted in ICU wards with viral infections combined with other ailments. They have advised people to keep their surroundings clean and mosquito-free as an effective preventive measure.

According to medical experts, there are also a sizable number of people with unspecified symptoms such as weakness or dizziness, which also require immediate medical attention. Warning people against any sort of self-medication, doctors have suggested proper diagnosis.

Dr Ashish Chauhan, consultant at Apollo hospitals, said, “In the last few weeks, there have been several ICU admissions with dengue and viral infections. However, there have not been major fatalities.”

Dr Suchitra Dontamala from Gandhi hospital, said, “Apart from dengue and other viral infections, there are cases pertaining to diarrhea, giddiness, stomach pain, sudden shocks or collapses, breathlessness, respiratory infections and low platelet counts. Dengue, combined by other ailments, has led to deaths in some cases.”
