South Central Railway registers its best-ever performance
Vijayawada: South Central Railway (SCR) has registered its best-ever performance for the month of November in any financial year during 2023 in both passenger and freight segments.
SCR general manager Arun Kumar Jain said the south-central zone registered originating passenger revenue of ₹469.40 crore and freight revenue of ₹1,131.13 crore during November 2023, which is the highest-ever performance for the month of November in any financial year.
Arun Kumar said their zone is constantly monitoring passenger trends so as to introduce and operate special trains wherever feasible. In this context, he pointed out that in November 2023, SCR operated 64 special trains involving 342 trips, wherein 3.39 lakh passengers were carried.
In addition, the zone is continuously augmenting trains with additional coaches, whenever there is a demand and possibility, leading to a greater number of passengers being transported.
The GM underlined that the passenger revenue of ₹469.40 crore in November 2023 is 7 per cent more than last year’s $436.46 crore.
He disclosed that SCR zone has been giving importance to widening its freight basket. It has added new streams of traffic and new destinations, while strengthening the existing traffic. SCR’s continuous endeavour in this direction has resulted in the zone recording its best-ever freight loading of 11.573 MTs for the month of November. This is 10 per cent more than the last year freight load of 10.479 MTs during the same period.
Arun Kumar pointed out that the improvement in freight loading is clearly visible in all commodities, like coal, iron ore, cement, food grains and fertilisers.
He congratulated officers and staff of both operating and commercial teams for achieving impressive earnings during the current financial year. He advised staff and officers of all divisions and headquarters to maintain the same tempo, so that SCR can achieve best performance by the end of this financial year.
