Entertainment hub in Metro City plan
Kochi: Want to swing around like Spider-Man or experience zero gravity in a 360-degree environment? The Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL) authorities are planning to set up a modern Entertainment hub that features a virtual reality gaming centre among others as part of the proposed Metro City project at Kakkanad.
“We’re planning a modern entertainment park in Kakkanad. The possibility of getting Imax to set up a virtual reality or zero gravity experience centre is being looked into,” said Chief Secretary Tom Jose while inaugurating the extension of usage of Kochi1 card to private buses.
Earlier, the top official held a review meeting of the Kochi Metro and CSML projects at the KMRL headquarters.
While noting that the first-of-its kind prepaid card was rolled out in Kochi and extended to buses in record time, the chief secretary observed that a host of big projects is planned for the city.
“The canals in the city have got destroyed by depositing of silt, encroachment and waste dumping among others. We’re implementing a '1000 crore project to retrieve six major canals including Edapally, Perandoor and Market canals, and make it navigable in another three to four years. The government last week released '500 crore towards this,” he said.
Transport Principal Secretary K.R. Jyothilal said the government is planning to introduce online services of autorickshaws in Kochi on the model of Uber once the UMTA (Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority) is set up. “Also two hovercraft services will be started in the Thiruvanant-hapuram-Kochi section in the near future,” he said.
Earlier, the Kochi1 card service was rolled out in 50 buses. The same will be extended to 1000 buses in phases. The commuters can avail five per cent discount by using the card. The Axis Bank will provide cent per cent discount on the card fee on Kochi1card for one month as an initial offer.
