Little Flower Engineering Institute climbs on solar power wagon
KOCHI: Little Flower Engineering Institute at Kalamassery, which is an Industrial Training Institute run by Archdiocese of Verapoly offering NCVT courses, is joining the solar power mission to reduce dependence on hydel power and to beckon rest of the educational institutions to the shining path.
Little Flower which also imparts technical training, testing and certifying job aspirants and interviewees on behalf of clients in India and abroad, uses hi-tension power line since a lot of industrial activities including a large number of welding is held on the campus as part of the academic practical and other training and testing activities.
"We will shift 60 percent of our power consumption to solar once the solar plant is commissioned. Currently our monthly power bill hovers around Rs 1 lakh.
The work has been awarded to Kochi-based private firm Lifeway Solar and the installation will be over in two weeks. The entire solar power generated will be given to the KSEB power grid and KSEB will adjust the contribution against our consumption and we will pay money for the remaining power supplied from KSEB's account," said Fr Joby Aseethuparambil, principal of the institute.
He said that the KSEB has categorized Little Flower Engineering Institute into three sections of power consumption high, very high and normal during different times of a day. "During some months our consumption peaks when more industrial-related activities take place," said Fr Joby.
