Tech-savvy youth are in search of candidate
Kochi: Furious over the seat sharing debates and caste-based politics, a group of youngsters have started trending a debate on fielding a candidate in the upcoming polls in Kerala. Anyone interested can join and the name of the candidate will be finalised after conducting an online opinion poll.
A Facebook page 'Social Media Candidate' and a blog with the same name are already live inviting suggestions for an ideal candidate. Candidates should be in the age group of 25-65 and should have lived in the respective constituency for at least five years.
They should not have a criminal background and no financial fraud cases. The corruption crept in the politicians, and the anti-people stand taken by mainstream political parties are the reasons behind the initiative. The campaign aims to use the power of social media.
The plan is to invite applications from the public sphere and publish the entire list on the website for netizens to cast their vote. The campaign team calls themselves as dreamers who want to write a new chapter in Kerala's political history.
A group of young RTI activists who are popular on social media is behind the initiative. If Twenty20 can contest and win the local body election, if Pembilai Orumai can win a battle against estate owners, social media can also nominate a candidate and win the elections, they assert.
