Intel wing looking into Maoists letter threatening BRS leaders

HYDERABAD: Following the release of threatening letters targeting BRS public representatives by the banned Maoists, intelligence officials have started to look into the veracity of the letters in districts.

Officials from the Special Intelligence Bureau (SIB) have tightened vigil on movements of the outlawed cadre and have asked the police officials to forward all such letters purportedly written by Maoist leaders.

A letter was released in Eturunagaram in the name of Bhadru and Venkatesh of ‘Maoist party action team’, cautioning BRS leaders and public representatives to mend their ways or face ‘trial’ in a Maoist ‘public’ court. The letter alleges that some ruling party leaders had encroached on lands and were also into land settlements.

It also alleges that forest officials had registered false cases against innocent people in the rural areas and harassed them physically and mentally. Sources said that intelligence officials have already taken measures in collecting details of these letters to verify whether they were genuinely released by Maoists.

"The banned cadre is active in the Telangana border and Gadchiroli of
Maharashtra. We have specific information about such movements, although there has been no activity in Telangana. However, we will verify the letters," sources said.
