Brahmin body to help Pingali Venkayya's family
Guntur: Leaders paid homage to National Flag designer Pingali Venkayya during his 141st birth anniversary observed in Guntur on Wednesday.
AP Brahmin Welfare Corporation conducted a remembrance meeting and recalled the services of the great freedom fighter and nationalist. APBWC district coordinator S. Sridhar said Gandhiji sought a flag with saffron and green colours representing Hindu and Muslim communities and Venkayya honouring the spirit, designed the national flag, which got accolades from the leaders and public then.
He said that despite participating in the freedom struggle and designing the National Flag, Venkayya lived a simple life. However, he died in penury on July 4, 1963 and announced that APBWC would offer help to Venkayya’s family for his services to the nation.
Archaka Samkhya state secretary J. Ramalingeswara Sastry and other leaders paid floral tributes to the protrati of the flag designer.
In a separate programme, Forum for Better Bapatla recalled the services of Tricolour designer Pingali Venkayya in Bapatla.
FFBB secretary P.C. Sai Babu said that a national flag is a repository of emotions and feelings, all of which centres around a consciousness which is larger than that of the individual’s. He stated that athletes wrap it around themselves after winning honour for their country. Martyrs come home wrapped in it after sacrificing their life for the country. In both instances, the flag represents the invisible thread that binds together millions.
He praised Pingali Venkayya for designing such a flag that served as a source of inspiration for people during the freedom movement. AVV High School headmaster S.V.R. Prasad and others also paid tributes tes to the statue of Venkayya .
