Hyderabad: Drug offender beaten up by cops, critical
Hyderabad: Bharat Thukral, 49, from Madhuranagar in the city, who was picked up by the task force two days ago for possession of MDMA, was admitted to the Gandhi Hospital in a critical condition.
Police claimed that after he was handed over to the Madhuranagar police for effecting his arrest, he had complained of uneasiness. It was found that he was allegedly beaten up by task force sleuths.
Late on Thursday, task force sleuths from the city’s east zone had caught Thukral and seized two grams of MDMA packed in eight sachets from him. After preliminary questioning, he was handed over to the Madhuranagar police.
Sources confirmed that a couple of hours after being handed over to the Madhuranagar police, he complained of uneasiness and collapsed. It was found that after he was picked up by task force, he was allegedly beaten up for more information related to drug peddlers and consumers.
Task force officials said Thukral was a previous offender involved in a series of drug trafficking incident, and denied torture. His family members could not be reached.
City police officials claimed that Thukral was having health issues. When he complained of uneasiness, he was immediately rushed to hospital and his condition was normal, they said.
