CBI Files Chargesheet in Bahanaga Train Accident Case
BHUBANESWAR: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Saturday filed the charge sheet in the Bahanaga train mishap in which 294 passengers died.
As per reports, the charge sheet mentions the names of three Railway employees, including senior section engineer Arun Kumar Mohanta, section engineer Mohammad Amir Khan, and technician Pappu Kumar. They were earlier arrested under sections 304 and 201 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
On June 2, the Coromandel Express hit a goods train resting on the loop line at Bahanaga Bazar station in Balasore. At the same time, the Bengaluru-Howrah Express, which was passing on the downline, was hit by the derailed coaches of the Coromandel Express. As many 295 passengers lost their lives in the tragic Balasore train accident. While 176 sustained grievous injuries, 451 suffered minor injuries, and 180 received first aid treatment.
It is resulting in the deaths of hundreds of passengers.
Earlier, the inquiry report of the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS), South Eastern Circle, stated that the deadly train mishap at Bahanaga station in Odisha’s Balasore had occurred due to lapses in the signaling circuit alteration carried out at the North Signal Goomty (of the station) in the past.
