DC impact: Will end life if not reunited with my husband, says Nasreen
Chennai: Assurance by a top police officer on Wednesday evening to reunite her with the husband in two days could have convinced Nasreen (23) - who was abandoned by hubby, Habeeb, through triple talaq - to withdraw the three-day protest. But, the adamant woman told DC that she would kill herself if the promise is not kept by Saturday.
Nasreen has been staging a protest outside her husband’s residence at Lakshmi Nagar of suburban Tambaram since 6 am on Monday. With no place to sleep and use the toilet, she undergoes the agony, voicing against the triple talaq sent by her husband along with a demand draft of Rs 20,000 as a compensation for being in the wedlock for a year. She was labelled as a bad omen after the mother-in-law died in February. Her two miscarriages made the hubby term her as misfit to the institution of marriage and issued a talaq on the grounds of absence of physical intimacy.
Even though the Jamaat backed Nasreen, who submitted the requisite medical documents, her husband shows no willingness for the reunion. He had approached the family court regarding the case.
The talks by the assistant commissioner of Tambaram were fruitful as Nasreen is pausing her protest. “The assistant commissioner promised to send the Jamaat copies to the Chief Kazi of Royapettah and provide a genuine solution. I am withdrawing my protest, as a token of respect to him. But, If it does not happen by Saturday, I will kill myself,” Nasreen told in an anguished tone.
Recovering from her exasperation, she thanked the media for the help as she said, “If not for the media, my misery would not have received the attention of senior police officials.”
Habeeb, present at the Tambaram assistant commissioner’s office, was reportedly convinced with the talk. Assistant commissioner Loganathan told Deccan Chronicle, “We will deal the issue at Jamaat and Habeeb expressed his consent for the same.” Efforts of Deccan Chronicle to contact Habeeb went in vain.
