3 Hyderabad residents go astray near 4,390 m high Apharwat peak
SRINAGAR: Three tourists from Hyderabad went astray while rambling in the Apharwat mountains in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pir Panjal range on Wednesday evening and were subsequently rescued by the police.
The 4,390 metre high Apharwat up the premier ski resort of Gulmarg had earlier this week received another spell of snowfall, attracting a large number of domestic and foreign tourists.
A spokesman of the J&K police said here on Thursday that three tourists identified by their mononyms - Raju, Ananya and Bhardwaj -had lost their way in the mountainous area where they had gone to enjoy a Gondola ride. “Immediately after receiving the information about it, the Gulmarg police swung into action. A police party was deputed and the tourists, all residents of Hyderabad, were rescued," he said.
A local news gathering agency quoted one of the tourists as saying, “We thank the police for its swift response. We had gone towards the Gondola on foot and completely lost our way. We called the SHO, Gulmarg, and a police team reached in no time and rescued us.” He added, “Without the police help we would not have been able to return safely, and we thank the police wholeheartedly."
The Line of Control is barely a few kilometres from Apharwat.
