Take all possible steps to safeguard life and property: CM Jagan tells officials

Vijayawada: Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Sunday conducted a fresh review along with the officials as part of the state government’s efforts to minimise the impact of Cyclone Michaung.

The Chief Minister asked district collectors and other officials to be ready in every way to carry out rescue operations and ensure that adequate facilities are provided in the camps. He directed the collectors to safeguard the lives and property of the people. The relief and rescue measures should be foolproof and all facilities, including drinking water, food and necessary medicines should be provided in the relief camps.

Jagan Mohan Reddy said that besides restoring power lines and transportation facilities in affected areas, steps should be taken to ensure proper sanitation in and around the relief camps.

The CM told the collectors that he would again review the situation through a video conference on Monday morning. He directed the civil supplies department to ensure that the paddy stocked in the fields does not get wet and procure the paddy available irrespective of its status and send the stocks to the rice mills or other available godowns at the earliest.

Meanwhile, Suresh Kumar, commissioner of school education issued a circular to all district collectors and magistrates, specifically from Nellore to Kakinada districts, to declare holidays to schools until December 6, based on the cyclone conditions.

Primarily, holidays were declared to both government and private schools on December 4 and 5 in view of the Michaung cyclone.

Krishna collector Raja Babu appointed special officers to the seacoast mandals to monitor the situation from time to time. He is supervising the cyclone situation from the Command Control Room and giving instructions to the respective officers.

Divisional forest officer (social forestry) K. Rajasekhar has been appointed as special officer for Koduru mandal, Samagra Siksha additional project coordinator Ramulu Naik for Avanigadda, AP micro irrigation project officer Vijaya Lakshmi for Nagayalanka, Mahcilipantam municipal commissioner G. Chandraiah for Machilipatnam, marketing AD Nityanandam for Bantumilli, SC corporation ED Chandra Leela for Kruthivennu and Labour department assistant commissioner S Govind for Mopidevi mandal.

DRO Peddi Roja will supervise the cyclone effect of all mandals in Krishna district. Subsequently, DRCDA PD, PSR Prasad will coordinate with the Nagayalanka and Koduru mandal special officers, ZP CEO Jyothi Basu will be coordinating with Kruthivennu and Bantumilli, DPO Nageswar Naik will be coordinating with Avanigadda and Mopidevi, and DWAMA PD G.V. Suryanarayana with Machilipatnam mandal special officer.

Collector Raja Babu asked the people to contact the cyclone toll–free numbers 08672252572, and 08672252000.

NTR collector Dilli Rao suggested farmers postpone the paddy harvesting process for two to three days to prevent heavy losses. He along with joint collector P. Sampath conducted a teleconference with the officials in the district. A control room has been started with a 0866-2575833 number, which will work round-the-clock.

Guntur collector Venugopal Reddy said the control room started with 0863-2234014 number, which will work round-the-clock from the collectorate. He asked the public to make good use of the same.

Municipal/corporation commissioner Chekuri Keethi said a control room started with 0863-2345103 number in Guntur which will work round-the-clock and the public may make good use of it. She said GMC officials were ready to work and remove fallen trees, supply drinking water, restore power supply and arrange generators for emergencies.
