Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister and power minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka on Thursday instructed energy department and power utilities officials to plan in advance and ensure that there was adequate generation and supply of electricity.
Chairing a review meeting on the subject at the Secretariat, Bhatti said that as per the Central Electricity Authority, demand for power was set to rise in the state in the years up to 2031-32 and that the utilities and the department should make plans to meet this demand.
The CEA last year had forecast an increase of 58.7 per cent in electricity demand and had said that agriculture and irrigation sectors were where the demand would rise the most. The CEA projected that Telangana state would equire 1,20,549 million units by 2031-32, up from around 70,000 million units in 2023.
Bhatti called for steps to be taken for setting up NTPC’s Phase II project at Ramagundam designed to produce 2,400 Mega Watts of power, as well as starting work on the 800 MW thermal plant to be set up by Singareni Collieries Company Limited in Jaipur mandal of Mancherial district.
He also instructed officials to ensure that proper power supply is made available in the coming summer season.
