Centre notifies Justice Abhishek Reddy's transfer to Patna HC

HYDERABAD: The Central government on Thursday issued a notification for transferring Justice Annireddy Abhishek Reddy from the Telangana High Court to the Patna High Court.

The move comes after the Supreme Court Collegium, headed by Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud, recommended the move on November 24, 2022, following which advocates of the Telangana High Court protested against the proposal and abstained from court for three days.

Demanding that the proposal be revoked, the executive committee of the Telangana High Court Advocates Association met CJI Chandrachud, who agreed to examine their grievances, following which they ended their strike.

Due to the strong disapproval of the move, the transfer was pending until the notification was issued on Thursday.

Justice Abhishek Reddy was born on November 7, 1967, and is a native of Lingampally in Manchal mandal of Ranga Reddy district. He did his schooling at St Paul’s High School in Hyderguda and Little Flower Junior College in Uppal, following which he enrolled with Nizam College for an arts degree, on completion of which he obtained his law degree from Osmania University in 1990.

He enrolled as an advocate with the then Bar Council of Andhra Pradesh in July 1990, and completed his master’s in law from Washington College of Law, under the American University in Washington D.C. of the USA in 1993.

After 16 years of practice across an array of cases, he was elevated as a permanent judge of the Telangana High Court on August 26, 2019.
