Woman falls off bike as rider misbehaves' in Tarnaka
HYDERABAD: A biker allegedly misbehaved with a woman, to whom he had given a ‘lift’ to a shop to get milk for her kids in Tarnaka. While trying to escape, the woman fell from the pillion seat of the speeding bike and was hit by a lorry that was coming from behind.
The incident took place late on June 26 night in front of a hotel near Tarnaka junction, police sources said. It came to light when the police detained the bike rider, identified as Sridhar.
Police said the victim was out to purchase milk for her child but found the shops nearby closed. She was waiting for an autorickshaw to go towards the market when the biker passed by. The victim requested him to drop her at a shop where she could get milk, police said.
In her statement to the police, the victim said that on the way, Sridhar started using vulgar language and threatened to rape her. When he tried to misbehave with her, she tried to escape, fell on the road and was struck by the vehicle.
Passersby informed the police, who called for an ambulance and sent her to a hospital.
While the police were looking for clues to the identity of the bike rider, they had a lucky break — the accused had sent the victim her mobile phone through a logistics services provider. Police tracked Sridhar down via the service provider and detained him for questioning.
When contacted, a senior police officer said that the victim had slipped from the seat due to the uneven road surface.
