Parents should check kids' digital lives: Cops

HYDERABAD: With technology having become an integral part of our lives, even children are getting increasingly exposed to the online world. In order to ensure that children do not fall prey to cybercrimes, Cyberabad police, in collaboration with the Children's Safety Club and self-defence, conducted an awareness program at Jaycee School in Attapur.

Speaking on the occasion, Rashmi Perumal, additional DCP, Rajendranagar, said," While the internet offers immense educational and recreational opportunities, it also brings along several risks, including cybercrimes that target the young and vulnerable sections. Many people are suffering due to a lack of understanding of the gravity of the situation”.

Children falling victim to cybercrimes is a growing concern. It demands the immediate attention of parents, educators and law enforcement agencies. With the rise of social media, online gaming and virtual interactions, youngsters are becoming susceptible to various threats, such as cyber-bullying, online grooming, identity theft and phishing scams, she said.

“There are instances where the bank account of the parent gets emptied with just a click. The children presume that they are downloading something. When such incidents come to light, parents have to approach police and report loss of money. They should keep an eye on such apps and caution their children about the menace of cybercrimes and how they should be vigilant”, she added.
