Shramdaan movement launched in Pondicherry
Puducherry: Puducherry Lt Governor Kiran Bedi launched ‘Shramdaan movement’ at Seliamedu village in Bahoor community panchayat on Saturday as part of ‘Swachh Bharat and Swacch Puducherry’ mission.
‘Shramdaan’ is one movement that can unite the country above caste, colour, creed and affiliation. The people united in Bahoor is a live example of this, Ms Bedi said.
She called upon the volunteers of self-help groups, NSS, students and the public to ensure that Puducherry emerged ‘cleanest and most prosperous’ and asked them to make Shramdaan a habit as preached by the Father of the Nation.
Ms Bedi said that on achieving the mission of ‘Swacch Puducherry’, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be invited to Puducherry to recognise the contribution made by young volunteers and the people of Puducherry.
She later visited Bahoor and called upon the people to put in their initiatives to achieve the dream of ‘Clean Puducherry’. Ms Bedi also worshipped at the sixth century Saivite temple of Moolanathar, maintained by Archeological Survey of India.
Welfare minister M. Kandasamy, chief secretary Manoj Parida, Puducherry district collector and officials of various departments were among those who joined hands with the Lt Governor in the ‘Shramdaan movement’.
