TS not backing railway projects, alleges Kishan Reddy
HYDERABAD: Apart from the NE and Himalayan states, Telangana had the least railway coverage. Despite this situation, the state government is not extending the help required of it to improvise the situation, said Union minister and state BJP president G. Kishan Reddy.
He said the Congress governments of the past had not made appropriate attempts to develop the railway network in Telangana. Over the years railways have proved to be the lifeline for transport of people and goods, he said.
The increase of the railway network increases connectivity and leads to development. In order to achieve this, the endeavour of the BJP government is to take up projects on a war-footing.
Last year, due to lack of cooperation from the Telangana government, railway lines of 700 km came to a halt, he added.
Comparing the railway network laid over the years he said, “While before 2014 only 17.4 km were laid, the Modi government increased it to 55 km in a year. Around 40 railway stations are being modernised. The Centre has released Rs 2,300 crore for this.”
Despite the state government’s silence, the Centre has given the green signal to development projects worth Rs 83,000 crore, Reddy said.
