AP minister says prisoners to be treated under Aarogyasri

Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Home Minister Taneti Vanitha announced that Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has approved treatment of prisoners in the state under the government’s Aarogyasri programme.

She made the announcement at a review meeting she held with officials of the Andhra Pradesh Special Protection Force (APSPF) on Wednesday. The home minister maintained that AP is the first state in the country to offer treatment to prisoners under a health scheme.

Vanitha said the issue of GST exemption on goods made by prisoners will also be brought to notice of the CM.

She said action has already been taken against police working at the Visakhapatnam airport during Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan's visit.

APSPF DG Santosh Mehra and DIG BV Rami Reddy made a detailed presentation to the home minister on activities of the special protection force and steps to be taken for strengthening it.

The home minister asked APSPF officials to submit proposals related to issues that require administrative approvals. She assured that their matter will be brought to the attention of the Chief Minister, so that they could be resolved.

She appreciated APSPF personnel for protecting properties of airports, assembly, high court and temples belonging to TTD, Annavaram, Srisailam, Simhachalam and Vijayawada, among others.
