Farmers request collector for survey to assess crop damage

Adilabad: A team of 40 farmers of Adilabad district met the collector Sikta Patnaik on Tuesday and sought a survey to assess crop damage in their agricultural fields.

The farmers said the agriculture department submitted a report to the high court that standing crops like cotton, soya, mirchi, black gram and red gram were badly damaged in 1.4 lakh acres of 26,783 farmers in the district.

The farmers sought a survey to assess the crop damage in the lands belonging to 26,783 farmers and payment compensation for the crop damage.

The team led by the Rythu Swarajya Vedika district president Sangepu Borranna told her that the agriculture department conducted the field-level survey to assess the crop damage of the only 14 farmers of Dhannur village in Boath mandal on orders of the high court. The Rythu Swarajya Vedika had filed a petition in the high court on behalf of 14 farmers.

The distressed farmers told the collector that they have incurred huge loss of cotton crops due to continuous rain in the first and third weeks of July.

Farmers Jakka Malkanna, Bhoja Reddy, Ramana, Prasad, Maruti and Rythu leaders Bandi Dattayri and Lokari Poshetti were among the team that met the collector.
