Women pin hopes on free RTC travel facility for taking up jobs

Adilabad: Women, especially the married ones, have pinned heavy hopes on being provided free travel in RTC buses as promised by the Congress party in its manifesto.

Many felt that they can become mobile once this facility is extended. It will also help them to explore job opportunities even in places at a distance from their houses.

Married women said that they could visit their parents staying elsewhere more often and be available in case of emergencies.

The assurances of getting a LPG cylinder for '500 and the '2,500 pension under the Mahalakshmi scheme have drawn women voters towards the Congress, opine many people.

Laxmi of Bhoopet village in Bheersaipet gram panchayat, Utnoor mandal, said that she got married three years back and stays with her family in Metpalli. She visited her native place to cast her vote and also to see her parents. She said that it would help women a lot once they are assured of free travel on RTC buses.

‘Many poor women avoid visiting their parents due to the high bus charges, which causes a financial burden’,” she said.

Three families from Metpally came to Bheersaipet village to cast their votes two days before the polling day.

Saroja of Jannaram of Mancherial district said that if they are assured of free mobility, women can take up small jobs at distant places as bus travel will save them time and money.

It is widely perceived that some of the six guarantee schemes mooted by the Congress party swung the issue the party way, especially those of women. This is evident from the higher voting percentage of women in certain pockets.
