Kerala innovator gets US patent
THRISSUR: A youth hailing from Thrissur who has formal education only up to Plus Two has got a US patent for a hybrid automobile machine which combines both electromagnetic force and fuel components to enhance the mileage of automobiles by 20 to 50 per cent.
The inventor, Gebin Maxey, 22, came up with the concept when he was a Class X student in Chennai. He approached venture capitalists across the globe for support after completing his Plus Two at Vels Vidyashram Sc-hool in Pallavaram, Chennai.
Mr Maxey said he attended a startup conference in the US with the help of an investor in Colorado. David Cohen, one of the first investors in Uber, has now expressed interest in the technology and came forward to invest in his concept. “I have co-founded Maglev Motors along with Princeton-educated computer scientist John Bohlmann to work on the prototypes and for doing computer simulations of the technology,” Mr Maxey said.
“Now, we have got the US patent for the technology named ‘Integrated linear parallel hybrid engine’.
Along with the combustion using fuel, the hybrid technology adds electromagnetic power in the pistons of automobiles.
Mr Maxey, son of Thrissur-based marketing consultant Maxey Mathew and Alice Mathew, on his visit to his ancestral house Mathew Bhavan on Civil Lane Road at Ayyanthole here said four among the leading international automobile manufacturers have expressed interest in the technology and he was yet to make a final call on whom to entrust it with. He says that his school encouraged him by opening up all their science labs to support his innovative mind.
Mr Maxey is at present settled in Chennai where he focuses on machine learning-based technology and flies to US for presentations, if necessary.
If the new technology reaches the automobile market, it will be a great achievement in fuel optimisation and environmental conservation, he said.
