No abetment charges in Krishnanunni's death

Police has taken statements from local settlers including a workshop owner.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Krishnanunni L. Pratap, 19, lost his father at the age of two and was his mother Letha’s only hope. The delicate looking teenager was found dead on a railway track on Friday morning hours after being beaten up by his girlfriend’s parents on a public road at Vazhayila. Police has taken statements from local settlers including a workshop owner. However, it is yet to book anyone for abetment of suicide or murder. The post-mortem report the family got on Tuesday merely states that death happened due to a severe injury on the right side of his head.

“The body did not resemble like that of a regular victim who has fallen under a train. So cops at Thumba station asked us to take it up with the commissioner,” said Hari, his uncle. The relatives were still not sure what prompted the parents of his lover to attack him up. “One day girl’s parents came with her to Krishnanunni’s house and informed his mother about the affair. All sides were pacified, and children were told that they could decide their future after standing on their own legs,” said Mr Hari. The girl and Krishnanunni had fallen in an affair during Plus One. Both together enrolled for BCom in Emmanuel College, Vazhichal. However, hell broke loose on Tuesday as they were spotted together on a bike.

As per the versions of some witnesses, Krishnanunni’s relatives say, he was bashed up by girl’s mother and father in the afternoon. However, since the girl strongly stood by her lover, residents pulled the parents away and called the police. “In the evening, the girl’s father had called us and said he had dealt with the boy,” he said. Meanwhile, Pettah CI A.S. Suresh Kumar said there was no evidence to accuse anyone in his death. “Autopsy report points at the lethal injury on the right side of his head. His body and shirt had the dirt from a train which is usually transferred on impact. There was no other mark. Even if he were pinched by someone hard, it would have shown in the report. So we cannot accuse anyone,” he said.
