Corp health wing goes hi-tech
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The civic authorities have procured around 110 hi-tech walkie-talkies to ensure speedy action against violators dumping garbage.
According to officials, the walkie-talkies would help mobilise resources during a crisis. Currently, the officials depend on mobile phones, which is not always feasible.
Walkie-talkie are handy and useful for passing information during a crisis.
“Our health squads are in the field always and we have night squads on the prowl round the clock. This wireless equipment would be of immense help for the squad work and 24- hour connectivity will fill the gaps in communication. Every health inspector and the authorities concerned, including the Mayor, would be on the loop,” said the official.
The civic body receives grievance calls all the time and this would ensure swift and timely action. “We got the mandatory licence from the authorities for using the walkie-talkies. This would improve the communication between the health wings of all zonal offices,” said the official.
The civic body had set apart Rs 45 lakh for strengthening the health wing. According to the disaster management wing of the civic body, walkie-talkies are essential during a crisis.
Coastal erosion and flash floods are some of the crisis we face every year, said the official.
