6-yr-old boy washed away in open drain
VIJAYAWADA: In a tragic incident, a six-year-old boy, Abhiram, died as he fell into an open drain while playing near the NAC Kalyana Vedika in Guru Nanak Colony here around 12.30pm on Friday and was washed away for a distance of about 1.5km.
A neighbour who noticed the fall alerted the police. A rescue operation was done by the police, the civic authorities and the fire personnel. They traced his floating near Tower Line Road. As the boy’s pulse could be felt, he was rushed to the government hospital. There, he breathed his last around 4.30pm despite the best efforts from the doctors to save his life.
The city experienced good rainfall in the last few days and the drains were flowing to their full capacity.
