TS employees unions step up pressure on govt for new PRC
Hyderabad: Telangana employees unions are stepping up pressure on the state government for the constitution of a pay revision commission (PRC) to revise salaries and pensions for employees and retired staff.
The tenure of the incumbent PRC is set to end on June 30, and the unions want the new pay scales to come into force from July.
The first PRC constituted by Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao in 2018 was supposed to be implemented from July 1 that year but actually came into force from April 2021.
The CM announced the first PRC in May 2018 but was constituted in July. The PRC submitted its report to the government in December 2020. The CM announced 30 per cent fitment (hike in basic pay) in March 2021 with effect from April 2021.
Major employees unions such as TNGOs, TGOs and teachers unions such as PRTU, UTF etc are holding general body meetings to press the government to announce the PRC. The unions are also demanding that the government abolish the contributory pension scheme (CPS) and re-introduce the old pension scheme
(OPS).
At present, the unions are adopting a 'non-confrontation' attitude with the government. But the union leaders coming are under tremendous pressure from the employees to hold agitations and step up up pressure on the government now.
Employees and pensioners strongly feel that they could achieve their demands in the election year easily. If they fail, they will have to wait for several months as had happened in 2018 when their wait stretched to two hours.
