TS minister asks Governor, BJP leaders to also help farmers

WARANGAL: Telangana state Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan and BJP leaders must take responsibility for helping farmers through the Food Corporation of India (FCI) and the Central government, civil supplies minister Gangula Kamalakar observed here on Thursday.

Despite injuring his leg, the minister made it a point to visit the purchasing centre at Kamanpur village in Kothapally mandal of Karimnagar district.

Kamalakar maintained that the Governor is part of the state government. If she is really concerned about farmers in Telangana following the recent heavy rains, she could ask the centre to help the farmers. “Are farmers of Telangana state not citizens of the country,” he asked.

The minister advised Central ministers and BJP MPs to also intervene and help farmers, instead of trying to provoke them for political mileage.

He maintained that right from Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao to BRS ministers and MLAs, everyone is striving hard for the well-being of farmers. The Chief Minister has already announced that the state government is going to purchase all food grains, including those soaked in the recent heavy rains. Further, he has announced ex gratia of ₹10,000 per acre.

Kamalakar suggested that the Central government announce ₹20,000 per acre ex gratia. The FCI also takes a decision to decrease the outturn from 67 kg to 50 kg and help farmers, he pointed out.
