Kozhikode: Overbridge to be ready by June end

At present, the railway station has only one footbridge which connects the first platform with the fourth which is on the right side of the station.

Kozhikode: The work of a new railway foot-overbridge on the left side of the Kozhikode Railway Station, connecting all four platforms, is in progress as a boon to passengers who get down to the fourth platform and those who come from the main entrance to take a train on the fourth platform where trains towards Mangalore side stop. At present, the railway station has only one footbridge which connects the first platform with the fourth which is on the right side of the station whereas, on the other end, there are two bridges from either platform ending at the second and third platforms. The work is expected to complete this month.

It was in September that the railway minister laid its foundation stone. The portion connecting fourth with second and third platforms was already completed, and the rest of the work connecting the first platform was pending due to the delay in confirmation of the alignment of the proposed light metro. Southern Railways Palakkad division public relations officer M.K. Gopinath said it would be more helpful to the public once the lift facilities are also installed.

“Since Kozhikode is an A1 class station, the lift would definitely come, but in phases,” he told DC. Already the pillars have been erected for the bridge and the girders to fix over the tracks have reached the place. “Now only minimal works are remaining, and we are hoping to get it commissioned by June end although the work is at a slow pace at present,” said an official.
