Raichur water contamination death: Compensation given to victim's family
Raichur: The Karnataka government has provided compensation of Rs.5 lakhs to the family of five-year-old boy who died after allegedly consuming contaminated water in Raichur. Minor Irrigation, Science, and Technology Minister NS. Boseraju handed over the compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the family members of the boy. After visiting the boy's family, the minister stressed the government's commitment to prevent similar incidences in the future.
"Swift action was taken to ensure all affected individuals received proper medical treatment. Preventive measures have been taken to avoid similar incidents in the future," he said.
As the monsoon season approaches, the risk of drinking water contamination is high. The Minister urged the public to remain vigilant and emphasized the importance of swift response from panchayat-level officials when such issues are noticed.
"Appropriate action has been taken against the Panchayat Development Officer (PDO) who was found responsible for the incident. The PDO has been suspended from service. Temporary health centers have been set up in the affected villages. Ambulances have also been deployed to ensure timely medical assistance," he said.
The boy died and over 35 villagers fell ill after consuming the contaminated water last week. The incident occurred as a result of a broken drinking water pipeline, leading to contamination of water.
