Medchal Collector Gets Summons in Contempt Case

HYDERABAD: The Telangana High Court on Tuesday summoned Medchal collector Amoy Kumar, in charge of Hyderabad district, in a contempt case over failure to pay compensation to land oustees.

When Kumar was a Hyderabad collector last year, the High Court had directed him to pay compensation to certain persons whose land was acquired in 2001. The court orders were not complied with. The court directed Kumar to appear before the court on August 3 and explain the reasons.

Dasharath Mohanlal and others filed a writ petition in the High Court in 2001 claiming that they were not given any compensation in connection with the acquisition of 44,359.66 square yards of land in Bapunagar in Survey No.s 58, 59, 60 of SR Nagar, Hyderabad.

According to the AP Slum Development Act, of 1956, the land was taken from them by force, stating that it is a slum area. The single judge who inquired into the matter ordered that compensation should be given to the petitioners immediately, along with the interest amount.

The Hyderabad collector filed a writ appeal in 2004, challenging the order. A division bench dismissed the appeal filed by the collector in July 2022 and ordered him to implement the orders given by the single judge within four weeks. This was not done and the family members of Mohanlal filed a contempt case.
