TSRTC workers take out rally to Raj Bhavan, Governor assures to look into their case
HYDERABAD: Around eight platoons of armed personnel, police personnel from law and order, and central and west zone task force wings were deployed to man the stretch from PVNR marg to Raj Bhavan in view of the rally taken out by TSRTC employees here on Saturday.
Police stopped the protestors from entering the Raj Bhavan road. It was only after union leaders assured them that it was a peaceful protest that the police removed the barricades.
The rally, which started from PVR marg at around 10.20 am, reached Raj Bhavan by 11 am, where the workers warned of intensifying their stir if their demands were not met.
Meanwhile, police diverted traffic from IMAX towards Panjagutta junction. Commuters were not allowed to proceed towards Raj Bhavan. Many commuters' complained of getting struck around IMAX junction, Necklace road, Lakdi-ka-Pul, Khairatabad, Erram Manzil, Punjagutta and Ameerpet.
“I use the Khairatabad road to reach my office, which is in AG Colony. What normally takes 20 minutes took over one hour to reach my office,” said M. Jagdish, a civil engineer.
M. Nandita, from a software company, said that she had booked a cab to reach the office at Krishnanagar to attend an emergency meeting. The entire road was
heavily guarded and she was delayed, she said.
“We deployed over 200 police personnel drawn from various wings as a precautionary measure,” said Joel Davis, DCP, west zone.
Although Tamailsai Soundarajan was not in Raj Bhavan around that time, she had a video conference interaction with some of the union leaders, who were allowed inside the Raj Bhavan.
She assured the agitators that she would look into their demands and take appropriate decisions. She urged the protestors not to cause inconvenience to the people. Following the Governor’s assurances, the protestors left the spot.
