TIRUPATI: New courses in the Sri Venkateswara University (SVU) are witnessing a huge response from the parents of students. Parents are now approaching the University in advance for securing seats for the next academic year. SVU has initiated a Master of Science in Information Technology (MSIT), a PG programme, and a graduation course in engineering. The two courses have begun from this academic year. Both the programmes are run with the collaboration of foreign universities. SVU collaborated with the Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania for the MSIT PG programme. SVU has initially started the programme with an opening of 20 seats in which they have secured 10 admissions. The students of this programme follow the syllabus and exam curriculum of CMU, Pittsburg.
The professors from Pittsburg will visit SVU and take classes periodically and online interactions will be do-ne during the remaining academic days. SVU has collaborated with the Blekinge Inst-itute of Technology (BIT), Sweden for the new engineering programme. Interestingly, all the admissions for this academic year are full. SVU had announced 30 admissions for this year and all the seats are full. BIT stands 4th in the world in software engineering courses. SVU has now initiated Computer Science, Mechanical and Electronics courses for the first year. The students admitted in the course will study in SVU for three years and the final year of the course will be at BIT in Sweden.
SV University VC, Mr Avula Damodaram, said, “The students in both the courses would get joint degree certificates from both the universities. We have got a tremendous response from the parents. Parents are now approaching us regarding the admissions for next year. They are even requesting guidance in advance concerning the admissions. The foreign universities we have tied up with are among the top universities in the world. Our students will get an all round development.”
