Teachers get to fete their teachers

Teachers at St Paul's High School were asked to bring their teachers to a Teachers Day event on Monday

Hyderabad: Teachers at St Paul’s High School, Hyderguda had a surprise waiting for them: They were asked to bring their teachers to a Teachers Day event here on Monday.

English teacher Mamatha Thummala invited her English teacher, Neeraja Reddy, all the way from Hanamkonda. Thummala said: “I am here teaching students English because of her (Neeraja Reddy) I was poor in English, Neeraja ma’am’s extra efforts helped me catch up with my classmates. She made me understand the language, helped me in constructing sentences and gaining command over grammar.”

She added, “A girl who was afraid of the English was able to complete her masters in English because of one teacher.”

Yolanda Catherine, science teacher for the primary section, invited her teacher, Aileen Gay of Rosary Convent High School, Gunfoundry. “It was a day filled with nostalgia. It truly helped us connect. l invited my guru and she immediately accepted. The moment of acceptance after so many years portrays how much she longed to reach out to us and share.”

Sampurna Prem Kumar of Stanley Girls High School said, “I was invited by one of my students, who is teaching social studies. It was an amazing surprise. A token of gratitude after so many years.”
