Ambedkar Yuva Sene Udupi to Mark Mahisha Dasara

Udupi: The Ambedkar Yuva Sene of Udupi will organize 'Mahisha Dasara,' an event dedicated to commemorating King Mahisha, on October 15 in Udupi. Addressing the media in Udupi Yuva Sene President Harish Salian announced this.

"King Mahisha, a prominent Dravidian monarch from the prehistoric era, had ruled over Mahisha Mandala and was instrumental in the establishment of Mysuru. However, individuals with a predisposition towards caste hierarchies distorted his legacy, portraying him as a villain," said Salian. He emphasized that the event's purpose is to enlighten the public about the true historical significance of Mahisha.
'Mahisha Dasara' aims to serve as a cultural celebration honoring the original inhabitants of the region.

Salian further delved into the historical context, highlighting Emperor Ashoka's declaration of refraining from warfare after the Kalinga War and his adoption of Buddhism. The day is Vijaya Dashami. But the meaningful event was distorted by those with exploitative inclinations, giving rise to the imaginative narrative of Devi and the commencement of Dasara celebrations.

The event will feature a workshop entitled 'Who was Mahishasura,'' which will be inaugurated by research scholar Dr. Vittal Vaggan. Eminent progressive thinkers Srirama Diwana and Narayana Manuru will be the guests.
