Kerala: Shafi Parambil, Jebi Mather to take charge this week
Thiruvananthapuram: Mr Shafi Parambil, 33, Congress MLA from Palakkad, and Ms Jebi Mather, 37, Aluva municipal councillor, have been appointed as all-India Youth Congress general secretary and secretary respectively after a tough selection process by the AICC leadership. Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi’s core committee had conducted a three-tier interview and consultations for some eight months before selecting them. It is after two years that the youth leaders from the state have been included in the national Youth Congress committee.
Earlier, Mr Mathew Kuzhalnadan and Mr J. Shihabudeen were the national YC general secretary and secretary respectively. Mr Shafi told DC that they will take charge in New Delhi on Tuesday. “This time there are only six general secretaries in the national YC team,” said Mr Shafi. Ms Jebi has an illustrious Congress background. Her maternal grandfather was former KPCC president T. O. Bava and paternal grandfather K. C. A. Methar KPCC treasurer. Her father K. M. I. Mather is the KPCC general secretary. Ms Jebi also headed the training division of AICC in several states like Goa, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Assam and Rajasthan during 2011 -15. She is married to Dr. Hisham Ahamed, cardiologist at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi.
