Nalwadi Wadiyar's statue gets a trendy turban free of cost!
Mysuru: The Sarpesh-Mukutamani structure on the turban of former Mysuru Maharaja Sri Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar's statue at KR Circle here, which was found damaged recently, was replaced with a replica, designed by a city-based artist free of cost, on Friday.
With the support of Mysuru City Corporation and Mysuru DC Mr D Randeep, sculptor Arun Yogiraj Shilpi who had sculpted the statue of Jayachamarajendra Wadiyar at Hardinge Circle here, was chosen for designing the structure.
“It is designed in Karara marble of which we had a stock from our ancestors. It is the same material used to sculpt the original statue. Since we have an emotional attachment with the heritage of Mysuru, we designed it free of cost in a week,” Arun told Deccan Chronicle.
In memory of the contributions of Sri Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar, who ruled the erstwhile Mysuru state between 1902 and 1940, his statue was sculpted by R.P. Kamath and installed in 1956. It was inaugurated by engineering genius Sir M Visvesvaraya, according to heritage department sources.
