Kozhikode: The swiping machines (point of sales-PoS machines) installed at major ticketing counters under the Palakkad division of Southern Railway are getting good response from the public.
More people are now opting for digital transactions using debit/credit cards through the ticketing counters . The machines have been installed at 18 passenger reservation systems across the Palakkad division and 12 Integrated Unreserved Ticketing System (IUTS) counters, besides seven parcel centres.
Southern Railway Palakkad division PRO M.K Gopinath said, “during the initial stage of implementation at major stations like Kozhikode, Palakkad and Mangaluru, there were some technical issues related to refund which slightly delayed the expansion of the installation in the division. However, now we have rectified the issues and implemented PoS machines at 37 centres,” he said.
The implementation is done by a special team from the Southern Railway headquarters in Chennai. “The introduction of swiping machines will be a boon for both the staff and the public. Issues such as waiting for the balance and dealing with large bundles of currency notes will be reduced now, ” he added.
At present, the PoS machines are not available at four PRS locations, namely- Mangalore junction, Mangalore satellite PRS location, Kanhangad and Pollachi. These centres will be equipped with the facility soon.
