Avinash Reddy not to appear before CBI despite summons

ANANTAPUR: Kadapa MP YS Avinash Reddy has expressed his inability to appear before the CBI team in Hyderabad on March 6, Monday.

In a reply to the CBI summons, he claimed that he was already having official programmes in Pulivendula and Vempalle in YSR district.

The CBI served the third notice to the Kadapa MP at his residence in Kadapa on Sunday, asking him to appear before the agency office on Monday. Avinash Reddy had appeared twice before the CBI office in Hyderabad in connection with the case of murder of former minister YS Vivekananda Reddy some three and a half years ago.

The CBI has asked Avinash Reddy to appear compulsorily before its office in Hyderabad on March 6.

In addition, the CBI had served notice to Avinash Reddy’s father YS Bhaskar Reddy, asking him to appear before the CBI at its camp office in the District Prisons Guest House in Kadapa on March 12 in connection with the murder investigations.

Though the CBI had served notices on Bhaskar Reddy to appear before it in Hyderabad on February 23, he had expressed his inability to do so “due to prior engagements” and informed the CBI that he would appear before it any other day.

As the investigation so far pointed a needle at Bhaskar Reddy and his residence, the deceased’s daughter Dr N Sunitha had alleged the role of Bhaskar Reddy in the murder. The CBI team had questioned Avinash Reddy twice in connection with the case in Hyderabad.

In a related development, the wife of D Umashankar Reddy, third accused in the Vivekananda Reddy murder case, lodged a complaint with Pulivendula police, saying she was attacked by Parameswar Reddy and his son from Pulivendula. The woman, Swathy, said, "They ransacked my house and attacked me by saying that my husband got money by killing Vivekananda Reddy. They also threatened to kill my husband on similar lines."

She said she was beaten up with slippers by the assailants while she was alone in the house. She said she was admitted to a hospital for treatment of the injuries she received in the attack and sought action against Parameswar Reddy and his son.
