Vijayawada: The Supreme Court would, on April 14, hear a petition filed by Amaravati farmers seeking its intervention against the creation of R5 Zone to allot house sites for the poor living outside the capital city.
A division bench headed by Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud heard the petition in New Delhi on Thursday, when the petitioner’s counsel Dama Seshadri Naidu sought a hearing on April 10.
On April 4, the AP High Court refused to issue an interim order when the farmers from Amaravati filed a batch of petitions challenging the GO-45 permitting the Capital Region Development Authority to transfer lands to the district collectors of NTR and Guntur, to give house sites in Amaravati to the poor hailing from both the districts.
The state government issued GO-45 on March 31 to set up layouts spread over 1,134.58 acres of land in Amaravati for giving house sites to the poor. The state also issued orders for development of the said land.
