Karnataka: BJP holds protest against power tariff hike
Mangaluru: The BJP organized state-wide protest on Monday against the proposed power tariff hike in Karnataka. Led by MLAs and district presidents, the protest was organized in all districts’ headquarters. BJP leaders strongly criticized the government's decision to increase the tariff and labelled it as double standard by the ruling Congress party.
"The Congress party had promised that they would provide 200 units of power for free under the 'Griha Jyoti' scheme. However, after assuming power, the government has imposed several conditions for this," Mangaluru Vibhag Prabhari and former chairman of Mysore Electrical Industries Ltd Uday Kumar Shetty told Deccan Chronicle.
Shetty expressed disappointment, stating that not only did the government fail to fulfil its promise, but it also increased the power tariff.
"Their true colour have been revealed within a month of coming to power. This will adversely impact those families which do not come under the 'Griha Jyoti' scheme, as well as those beneficiaries of 'Griha Jyoti' who consume additional units of power," Shetty said.
