KOZHIKODE: There are many honey traps for the teenagers, especially girls in city schools even with the efforts of the police to tackle crimes against the minors. Many shops located near the city schools function as joints for girls and boys and allow girls to change their uniform. The Nadakkavu SI had requested the corporation on July 7 to cancel the licence of a shop at Mananchira that let schoolchildren change their uniform and roam around during school time.
However, the police say there was no action from the corporation and a reminder was sent on July 21. When the reminder also failed to make any impact, they decided to file a complaint with the Vigilance citing that the shop, that has licence for only photostat and light and sound facilities, was running coin booth and selling stationery and fancy ornaments, said the police.
The incident came to light after two Plus One girls wearing purdha were caught roaming around in a car with two men near Sarovaram Biopark, Eranhipalam. The girls were wearing purdha as a cover on top of the uniform to avoid suspicion and were caught during Operation Idiminnal aimed at curbing crimes against/involving minors. On Friday also, three girls were found wearing purdha at a mall in the city while they were with two men. The girls, studying in class nine and 10, were taken to the women police station along with the men.
“The particular shop has a coin box as well as fancy ornaments. The girls who reach the shop give a missed call to the boyfriends and they call back. The incident came to light after the shadow police checked. The coin box is not visible during day time and its purpose is just giving the men a signal,” said an official.
However, Mayor Thottathil Raveendran said that the issue had not come to his notice and that he would probe the same. “Stringent action would be taken against such violators. I am not aware whether the office has received such a request and a reminder from the police,” he added.
