Thanjavur: Girl child crushed to death by van near school
THANJAVUR: A four-year-old child Nandini, studying in LKG at a private school, Arogya Annai Matriculation school, at Budalur near here was killed when she was caught under the wheels of the school van while alighting at the school on Friday.
Nandhini, daughter of Manikandan who was running a shop at Budalur went to school in the van. On alighting at the school, the van driver reversed the vehicle and Nandhini was caught under the wheels and crushed to death.
Relatives of Nandhini and members of the public organised a ‘rasta roko’ at four-road junction of Budalur demanding action against the school management for the tragic death of the girl.
Traffic was affected for two hours due to the ‘rasta roko’. Jai Beam, revenue divisional officer (RDO) of Thanajvur, Rajendran, additional superintendent of police, Gajendran, tashildhar rushed to the spot and assured the agitators that action would be taken after which they dispersed.
