WARANGAL: Heavy rains that lashed out over the last three days wreaked havoc, inundating various low-lying regions and causing hardships for residents in the erstwhile Warangal district.
Three farmers died in the Jayashankar Bhupalpally district when lightning struck their fields while they were working. The deceased were identified as Guduri Rajeshwar Rao, 46, of Kataram mandal's Damarakunta village, Chaliveru Saritha, 30, and Nerpati Mamatha, 32, of Chityala mandal's Kailapur village.
With the lifting of the gates from the Saraswathi barrages at Annaram, the backwater not only submerged the fields in various villages, but also entered the Chandrupalli vagu in the district's Mahadevpur mandal, causing an overflow of water onto the road and causing vehicular disruption in several villages.
In Mulugu district, where water levels are dangerously high due to the inflow of flood water into the Jampanna vagu, inhabitants from Maliala, Govindaraju colony, and Kondai are taking boats to their destinations.
Flood water overflowed from drains and into residences in various colonies in the tri-cities of Warangal, Hanamkonda, and Kazipet, causing difficulty for people.
The municipal officials began construction of storm water drains in the Shivanagar region as part of the smart city project, however inhabitants suffered several problems due to overflowing drainage and flood water into the Mysaiah Nagar, Ganesh Nagar, and A.C. Reddy Nagar colonies.
Locals claimed that municipal department officials built storm water drains, but because they were built unscientifically, drainage water entered residences in several colonies, causing problems.
They claimed that neither local public representatives nor municipal officials are bothered to take action and do not reply when notified about the deplorable state of their colonies.
Farmers who had invested thousands of rupees in cotton and chilli crops, on the other hand, had been concerned for the past month because there had been no sign of rain, and their crops were going to wilt and dry up. They are relieved, though, because of the recent heavy rainfall in several sections of the combined Warangal district.
