Hyderabad: 56-year-old woman washed away in nala

Residents complain that the 30-odd families living on the bank of DS Nagar Nala face problems during the rain as there is no retaining wall

Hyderabad: A 56-year-old woman who was washed away in the DS Nagar nala on September 3 is yet to be traced, with the DRF and Gandhinagar police teams searching for the woman with drone cameras from DS Nagar to Nagole.

Gandhinagar inspector N. Ravi said: “We checked the CCTV camera footage and spotted the woman, Gundalla Lakshmi, going into her house with a bag, but she did not come out. We suspect that she might have been washed away in the nala.”

Lakshmi’s family said she bought two kilograms of rice from an adjoining shop at 1.40 pm and placed it in the cooker, during the course of which she fell into the nala from the rear door of the kitchen.

“My mother called me at 1.35 pm. I was at my office and she told me she was preparing food for us. As I reached at 2.20 pm, the back door of the kitchen was open, the rice on the stove was burnt and my mother was missing,” Lakshmi’s daughter G. Sukanya said.

“We alerted the Gandhinagar police; the police along with DRF teams reached our house, since then they have been searching for my mother. My mother is unwell and has high blood pressure. We suspect she might have accidentally slipped from the rear door and fallen into the nala,” she said.

DRF sources, meanwhile, said that there are over 23 houses on the bank of DS Nagar nala, starting from Marriott Hotel, passing through Nagole and ending in the Nalgonda district.

Residents complain that the 30-odd families living here face a grave threat during the rain as there is no retaining wall, despite the drain being located three metres away. The police registered a missing person case.
