Stale frozen meat sparks food poisoning concerns
Hyderabad: Less than two days after a man discovered a fly in his Osmania biscuit, a new wave of concern has swept through the city with allegations of stale frozen meat and potential food poisoning at a prominent hotel.
Amy Swetha and three of her friends, along with a four-year-old, reported nausea, vomiting, and stomach discomfort, among other symptoms after dining at the restaurant, Blue Fox, in Secunderabad on Saturday. "We asked for mixed meat noodles which wasn't on the menu and the staff agreed to prepare it for us. The food tasted a little weird towards the end but we continued anyway. Little did we know," said one of the friends.
The incident has raised concerns regarding the quality of frozen meat used in the hotel’s dishes.
“All we seek is that they ensure that such incidents are not repeated, and that the food served at the renowned establishment adheres to the highest safety standards," said Swetha.
Officials from the local health department have taken cognisance of the situation and are set to conduct a thorough inspection of the hotel's kitchen, storage areas, and food handling practices. A showcase notice is to be issued to the management of the hotel, the local food safety officer said.
Food safety officer E. Sudharshan Reddy confirmed that the restaurant has been inspected and samples sent to the lab for testing. Since the lab was in Mysuru, he said it would take at least two weeks for the results.
"I hope the move will shed light on the quality and freshness of the ingredients used in the preparation of meals. This place is known for its upscale dining experience and service. Even bandis and fast food centres on the road are using better standards with gloves, masks and caps and restaurants like these are careless. All I ask is if I'm paying a higher price, I expect a decent service - and health is a basic need and right," said another friend, Jyothi D.
