Vijayawada: In a crackdown against those drinking alcohol in public places, Bapatla police caught 357 people and registered cases against them.
District SP Vakul Jindal said drinking alcohol in public places is the root cause of many crimes. Those getting intoxicated start quarrelling over small matters, which even lead to serious crimes.
To prevent this, they have been conducting daily patrols, particularly in deserted areas, where those drinking gather to drink liquor. Legal action is being taken against those caught, Vakul Jindal stated.
In a special drive on Wednesday, Bapatla police took into custody 357 persons drinking publicly.
The SP asked people to inform police in case they find anyone drinking at public locations. They should immediately call the police station concerned, helpline number 83338 13228 or toll-free numbers 112 and 100 and provide information. He assured that details of informants will be kept confidential.
