GVL meets Rajnath Singh on Vizag airport
Visakhapatnam: Senior BJP leader and Rajya Sabha member G.V.L. Narasimha Rao has met defence minister Rajnath Singh and defence secretary Giridhar Aramane, seeking quicker resurfacing of the runway at the Visakhapatnam Airport.
The MP told the defence minister that Indian Navy partially closing the airport runway extended for 4.5 months will cause inconvenience to passengers and disrupt business operations.
He pointed out to Rajnath Singh and Giridhar Aramane that similar resurfacing works at Hyderabad and Pune airports had been completed in less than one month using modern methods and technology.
Narasimha Rao requested both the defence minister and defence secretary that resurfacing of the Visakhapatnam airport runway be completed in a much shorter duration than the proposed 4.5 months.
In his letter to the defence minister, the MP pointed out that Military Engineering Services (MES) had completed resurfacing of a portion of the Pune Airport runway in record 14 days. This helped the flight operations resume early.
Narasimha Rao said similarly, Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad completed refurbishment of its runway in just 15 days, as compared to the normal time frame of three months.
The MP went on to mention that the use of new Airport Grade Steel Guard (AGSG) technology provides a special protective coat to the runway in super quick time, while preserving and extending the life of existing asphalt runway surfaces.
